Description

Background:

WHO/FDI seeking to hire a skilled and proficient Data Scientist with expertise in Python, R, Data visualization, development of maps and other statistical software. The ideal candidate will also possess knowledge of the health sector, specifically in the areas of Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) and immunization data analysis. The Data Scientist will play a pivotal role in analyzing and interpreting complex health-related data to inform evidence-based decision-making.


Responsibilities:


The selected Data Scientist will be responsible for:


  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand and define data analysis requirements related to the health sector, with a focus on EPI and immunization.
  • Collecting, cleaning, and preprocessing large datasets from various sources, ensuring data quality and integrity.
  • Applying advanced data analytics techniques using Python, R, and statistical software to derive insights and trends from health-related datasets.
  • Developing and implementing predictive and prescriptive models to support strategic planning and decision-making in the health sector.
  • Creating interactive and informative data visualizations and maps to effectively communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Utilizing geographic information system (GIS) tools for mapping and spatial analysis or have expertise in developing maps using R, Python.
  • Collaborating with health experts to translate data insights into actionable recommendations for improving immunization programs and health outcomes.
  • Staying up-to-date with advancements in data science methodologies and health sector practices.

The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following qualifications:


  • Master’s in data science, Statistics, Computer Science.
  • Proven experience (3-5+ years) as a Data Scientist, with a demonstrated track record of working on health-related projects.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R for data manipulation, analysis, and modeling.
  • Experience in data visualization tools (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn, ggplot2) and geographic mapping software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Strong understanding of statistical analysis and modeling techniques.
  • Knowledge of the health sector, specifically in areas related to EPI and immunization programs.
